DMSO Introduction
Dimethyl Sulfoxide (DMSO) is a versatile chemical compound with a broad spectrum of potential medical applications. It is recognized for its ability to protect cells from damage, enhance blood flow, and reduce inflammation, making it a promising treatment for circulatory disorders, heart attacks, and both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. DMSO may also mitigate damage in traumatic brain injuries, concussions, and spinal cord injuries by reducing swelling and supporting recovery. Beyond these, it shows potential in addressing protein folding disorders like amyloidosis, as well as improving conditions such as cognitive impairment, dementia, psychiatric conditions, and developmental disabilities.
Other conditions such as cancer are addressed individually in articles listed below. Use the 'Spyglass' icon in the top right corner. Example https://raindrop.io/glycop/4-dmso-and-msm-18528209/search/sort=score&perpage=30&page=0&search=cancer
Finally, I've discovered that not all DMSO products are the same. Several articles say that cold processed DMSO contains less DMS (Dimethyl Sulfide) and reduces the 'garlic odor' that people experience with low grade products. Please review all the information on the products and seek the guidance of a qualified healthcare provider before using DMSO. Search for a healthcare provider who specializes in DMSO in your local area using the keywords “Alternative Medicine, Integrated Medicine or Naturopath”.
DMSO Calculations
Some people are sensitive to the smell of DMSO so they may want to start out with a very weak 1% solution by using an eyedropper. For example, 1 drop of DMSO in 1 teaspoon of distilled water is approximately a 1% solution and should be enough to cover the entire foot up to and including the knee. This calculator may be helpful at https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+many+drops+in+1+tsp+of+water&ia=web
To cover both legs make twice as much. Eventually most people can increase the amount of DMSO over time to a more effective level once they get used to it. Another way is to simply apply it several times per day. Be patient with yourself and learn what may be useful to you under the guidance of a healthcare provider as mentioned above.
For example, I have an old injury in my left earlobe that I use a 10% solution on a couple of times week. Sometimes just once a week, or less... playing it by ear. Sorry for the pun. Learn more below...
DMSO Products
I highly recommend this source at https://jacoblab.com/product-category/dmso-products/ On that page you will find 25%, 50%, 70% and 99.98% solutions in liquid and gel form.
Please note that one should start out with the lower ratio of DMSO if advised by your doctor such as the DMSO 25% Solution – 4oz. (Glass) found at https://jacoblab.com/product/dmso-25-solution-4oz-glass
In some cases you will need a stronger formula such as DMSO 70% Solution – 4 oz. (Glass) https://jacoblab.com/product/dmso-70-solution-4-oz
Personally, I do not recommend higher concentrations than this, although one can dilute the 99.98% down to the ratio you need using distilled water.
DMSO is also available at https://biogenicfoods.com/dmso-dimethyl-sulfoxide-usp-highest-purity-grade-99-9-pure-undiluted-usa-product/
Midwestern Doctor suggested these sources as well. Personally I'm not fond of shopping on amazon. https://dmsostore.com/collections/dmso-products https://www.amazon.com/DMSO-Bottle-99-995-Dimethyl-Sulfoxide/dp/B01BSYQ0XC https://www.amazon.com/DMSO-Liquid-70-stimulate-processes/dp/B00VDIEOD2 https://www.amazon.com/DMSO-Gel-70-30-Unfragranced/dp/B00Z2449PG https://www.amazon.com/DMSO-99-995-Diluted-Dimethyl-Sulfoxide/dp/B0752VGK4Q/r
DMSO Guidelines
DMSO can be administered orally (1% to 5% at small doses), topically, intranasally and as an IV. Typically, one would test a small area using a 1% solution in distilled water applied to clean skin to check for sensitivity issues as a general rule before applying to larger areas such as arms, legs, stomach and the back. 1% DMSO can be applied on clean skin several times per day if needed as long as it does not cause skin irritation such as to peal or flake off. UPDATE 4-16-2025
DMSO might help in dozens of metabolic disorders. Just don't take too much. Watch for dropping blood pressure. DMSO can also increase the bioavailability of medications, so caution is advised, and reduction of medication dosages may be needed. These are general guidelines that should be discussed with your doctor.
Talk to your Naturopathic Doctor and ask if IV-DMSO is the right choice for you.

UPDATE 3-20-2025
Unfortunately, while reviewing DMSO research on PubMed I'm finding conflicting studies that suggest it may cause problems for people that suffer from Type 1 diabetes, kidney and liver pathologies. Ironically, one study suggests it may prevent Type 1 diabetes. It will take some time to review the hundreds of studies and form a conclusion, if one is possible. CAUTION is advised at this time.

UPDATE 3-05-2025
My DMSO research has been updated with this article https://www.midwesterndoctor.com/p/how-dmso-protects-and-heals-the-internal that is quite comprehensive.
From what I have seen so far, DMSO can even be nebulized at 1% or less in a isotonic saline solution if one pays heed to the cautions listed in the research.
DMSO can prevent and treat a number of injuries, such as frostbite as an example.

DMSO Could Save Millions From Brain and Spinal Injury. The decades of evidence showing DMSO revolutionizes the care of many "untreatable" circulatory and neurologic conditions. https://www.midwesterndoctor.com/p/dmso-could-save-millions-from-brain
DMSO solved three of the most common problems in medicine:
• It quickly heals a wide variety of musculoskeletal injuries (e.g., those routinely experienced by professional athletes or a chronic back injury leading to partial disability).
• It effectively treats a variety of joint disorders (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis).
• It’s an extremely effective and very safe painkiller.
Because of this, it was miraculous for many with chronic pain and disability (e.g., from osteoarthritis or a failed spinal surgery), particularly since all other pain-killing medications have significant (and frequently lethal) side effects and worse still—often don’t even work.
NSAIDS and opioids each kill tens of thousands of Americans each year, whereas in over 60 years of use by millions of people, DMSO has not been linked to a single death. https://www.midwesterndoctor.com/p/dmso-is-a-miraculous-therapy-for
